Activities
PLENTY TO DO, WHATEVER THE TIME OF YEAR
Autumn and Spring are the perfect time to visit North Eastern Brittany as the weather is warm and there are
plenty of activities to keep you occupied during your holiday.
Things to do: Horse riding (village stables next door), golf, fishing, rambling, cycling, mountain biking,
tennis, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, kite surfing and go karting, trips to nearby medieval towns and castles,
exploring local markets, bargain hunting and antique fairs and flea markets, .
For the kids: Theme parks, zoos, water parks, forests and lakes.
Restaurants and Amenities: Small shop in the village for everyday provisions. Slightly larger shop at Saint
Suliac which has nearly everything and excellent supermarket (Super U) at Plouer, just over the bridge, to
stock up on cheap wine etc. Several restaurants within easy reach: By the old bridge (approx 2 kms); Saint
Suliac (creperie, fish restaurant and beach cafe), Plouer (marina restaurant + village restaurants).
Golf
If golf is your hobby, this is the place to be. The St Malo-Le Tronchet championship golf course at Miniac
Morvan is located 7 miles away from the cottage. It is the largest golf course in Brittany and is laid out around
the Mirloup lake on the edge of the Mesmil forest. With a view over nearly a third of the golf course, a former
17th century Priory, with modern facilities, is now Saint-Malo's clubhouse. Facilities include putting green,
covered practice ground, coaching, tuition courses, equipment hire, trolley hire, golf car hire, pro shop,
clubhouse bar, restaurant, hotel and billiards. Prices start from approx 25 Euros for 9 holes in low season.
In summer, come and enjoy the beautiful white sandy beaches of the 'Emerald Coast'
Vast choice of activities such as swimming, windsurfing, kite surfing, sailing or surfing. The best beaches on
the Emerald Coast are within easy driving distance. Our favourites include St Briac - probably the closest and
we think the most beautiful - totally unspoilt with small cafe for snacks / ice creams. St Jacut de la Mer - small
village with nice beaches and small islands. St Cast - a large seaside resort (wind surfing and sailing) wth
long sweeping bay, promenade, good beach, bars, restaurants and shops. Dinard - an Edwardian resort with
lovely beach, artists' shops, splendid promenade and coastal walks.
Nearby attractions:
St Malo - the walled town with lots of shops, restaurants and aquarium. Cancale for oysters and sea food
restaurants. Dinan - rampart walk for magnificent views; medieval centre for churches, historic buildings,
timber framed houses, port-side restaurants, boat trips etc. Market on Thursday morning. Jugon-Les-Lacs - a
large lakeside town with recreational facilities including a heated outdoor pool (high season only). Rennes -
medieval town centre and Saturday morning market.
Other activities: River cruises (starting from St Malo) up the Rance and to neighbouring islands; Spa /
thermal baths in nearby Dinard and St Malo. Canoe hire.
Boating: Boat owners wishing to bring their own boats on a trailer to the cottage are very welcome. Boats up
to 5 - 6 metres can be parked at the cottage. There is a slipway for easy launching at the nearby river beach
with a convenient car park adjacent.
